Milton Brightman attended the Swain School of Design and received a bachelor’s degree in 1976. From there he said goodbye to academia and secured employment in the Massachusetts State Forests and Parks giving him access to endless landscapes and allowing him to pursue his passion in landscape paintings. He notes that he is often asked about the artists who have influenced him and although there are many, he considers himself a synthesis of all. He has said, “‘People say, ‘Well your work doesn’t look like this artist or that.’ I say, of course not. I am the end result of those influences. That is how it should be. But whatever my influence, like a bird, I have long ago learned to leave the nest and fly on my own. But I must admit, I visit often.” He leaves the viewers to interpret and judge for themselves, as art is one of the highest forms of communication there is.
